On Tuesday 4 March 2008, Class 158 unit no. 158830 crosses Henry Robinson's 1858 viaduct over the Ceirog Valley at Chirk with the 0928 Chester to Birmingham New Street Arriva Trains Wales service. Below is the magnificent aqueduct built by Thomas Telford between 1796 and 1801, which carries the Shropshire Union Canal. Two fine examples of civil engineering still in use today - fantastic! |
